Types

Probably destroyed in the Chicago fire, 1871 (Faxon, 1914:124).

Type Locality

"Middle States" (Girard, 1852). South River, Waynesboro, Augusta County, Virgina, designated by Ortmann, 1931. Emended by Hobbs (1967a:129) to Rickfish River, south of Afton, Nelson County, Virginia.

Range

Atlantic watershed from the James drainage in Virginia and West Virginia south to the Yadkin Basin in North Carolina, in mountains and piedmont.

Habitat

Rocky areas of streams.
